3. Each time you manage to shift your focus instead of indulging in craving, you have won another battle. So smile with great satisfaction and celebrate another victory, for you are on the way to defeating addiction. By smiling and acknowledging your victory you are demoralizing addiction. Each battle you win weakens addiction to such an extent that its next attempt will be feebler and less efficient. As you notice this, take time to acknowledge it. Smile to yourself and further demoralize addiction.
And so whenever you are under attack, fight back. Use Strategy 1, which is miraculous, but if you feel it isn't working switch to Strategy 2. Don't give in - you have to win this war, no matter what. And you will.
4. As you experience withdrawal, remember that this is your body cleaning itself. The pain and suffering are not fun, but they are beneficial. Remember that. Pain and suffering are part of life and nobody escapes them. Pain and suffering are part of life, yet attitude is always a matter of choice.
Maintain a positive attitude towards the pain and suffering of getting rid of addiction. 'Positive attitude' means never being a victim. Forget all that 'poor me' drama: you have a choice, and you can choose to never be a victim. Life is in your head, remember that, the whole universe is in your head. Welcome the suffering of withdrawal and welcome the craving. It will weaken addiction and take the sting out of its bite; it will spread oil on its grip on you. You can do it, and much more that just that.
Use this battle as a learning process and you will bring meaning to the suffering. If the sufferings are meaningful to you they'll be worthwhile, and you will endure them with dignity and love.
5. Love yourself and respect yourself - that's where it all begins. Have lots of compassion for yourself, but don't indulge. |
