Staying a non-smoker - Facts and Allies - Page 2
Stop Smoking

Remember that the mechanism is a very ancient one. It worked for our ancestors because they were energized by the fuel and burnt it in a fight or flight. But for us it doesn't work because when we are under stress we consume only mind energy. We indulge in negative emotions, fears and manias that naturally yield further worries and anxieties.

Worries, depression, anxiety and other negative emotions do not burn stress fuel.

We do not have an intrinsic modern-day body function to help us deal with modern-day stress. We have developed at an unexpected speed and the physical adaptation process is lagging far behind. We are yet to adapt to living in modern society and we are not built for it.

Take a person who has spent all of his life in a city and throw him unprepared into the heart of the Amazon jungle. He'll immediately adapt and probably survive. He'll realize that he is incredibly resourceful and his body will awaken to the challenge and discover that it is built for it. He'll sharpen his teeth and fingernails; he'll kill beasts and eat their flesh uncooked. Return to visit him after a couple of months and you'll find him quite at home in his new environment.

But take a tribal man who has grown up totally isolated in a secluded forest and who has had no exposure whatsoever to modern culture. Throw him into one of our busy city streets and he will die. He would be dumbfounded and unable to rely on any of his natural resourcefulness - quite the contrary, his natural instincts would get him killed within an hour. If he survived due to the intervention of other people, he would be miserable and unable to adapt for the rest of his life.

We are inherently more tuned in to natural life than we are to urban living. Our bodies are built for natural living, but we no longer live in nature.

Our stress mechanism is therefore out of context …

It's a defect and that's how the problem manifests:

a. The Central Nervous System (CNS) is receiving false reports about what appear to be life-endangering situations, and hence releasing norandrenaline into the body.

b. This 'rocket fuel', norandrenaline, is released but not employed for a massive energy consumption known as 'fight or flight'. The rocket fuel remains in the body, creating short- and long-term maladies.

This is the stress of modern life.
