The nature of addiction is that it needs to be maintained at a certain level. When addiction is not properly maintained it inflicts pain …
If you don't sustain it properly, addiction inflicts pain!
So here we are in a situation of much complexity. Notice how clever this trap that you fell into is. It seems like a cul de sac.
But don't worry! Don't waste energy on doubting yourself or us as your support. You need to maintain all your energy for a focused effort.
Trust that you will get out of the cul de sac - all you have to do is turn around and leave.
It is simple.

Please acknowledge that addiction has got hold of you. We will now show you how this happened.
Please read the following carefully and allow your intelligence to work for you.
Allowing your intelligence to work for you means permitting your intelligence to be employed for your wellbeing.
No matter how intelligent we are at times, our intelligence can work against us. A good example is the rationalization of our smoking. Smoking is one of the most unintelligible actions that one can do, yet we do it. Is this not a case where we can say that your intelligence is not working for you?
The problem with nicotine addiction is that it is acting inside your brain. Nicotine addiction is insidious and ruthless, and it employs your intelligence for its own purposes.
You may have dozens of reasons to keep on smoking - such as:
|
• I enjoy smoking.
• It is one thing that I really enjoy.
• I know it's not good for me, but there are not many things in life that I do enjoy, and so I keep on smoking.
• I am addicted and I cannot stop. I have tried and failed several times. I can't do it, so I continue to smoke.
• Life is short anyway. I'd rather live for a few less years, but at least enjoy life.
• Everything that I really enjoy is either fattening or against the law.
|
| If you make these sorts of disempowering rationalizations it is clear that your intelligence is employed by addiction and not by you. You are not the boss, even if you think you are. You are compromising your position of leadership - you have handed control over to addiction. | |
