1. Now, this might be tough, but you have to be strong. We will cut down your daily allowance to nine cigarettes only. Nine a day only!
(If you smoke less than 9 cigarettes per day and you have reduced this number by 2 cigarettes in the previous session, please reduce one more cigarette from that amount - this is your new daily allowance.)
2. This time addiction will not just take it without retaliation. You are due to start feeling some of the withdrawal symptoms described in this Session. However, if you smoke nine cigarettes a day you will still be smoking enough to maintain the needs of your conditioned body.
3. Be attentive to your smoking. If you suck harder on each cigarette and smoke it all the way to the butt, it means that addiction is tricking you. You will be smoking fewer cigarettes, but delivering the same amount of nicotine to the brain. Be mindful and be cool - as a fierce warrior should be in battle.
4. Smoke your daily allowance, but maintain the new realization of why it is that you smoke. It is not out of free choice, but an addiction to the most vicious and dangerous substance in the history of mankind.
5. You are enslaved and you smoke compulsively. It is not your fault, so don't blame yourself. In our youth all of us were lured by the image that smoking is cool. And after a few cigarettes, most smokers become addicts and develop a smoking career of thirty to forty years. You just fell into that trap, but now it is time to get out.
6. Addiction might play games with you. It will use your brain to find arguments against your timely action of cutting down dramatically. Don't listen to it - be discerning, identify the enemy and taunt it. You can do it, so employ your inner strength and show some character.
7. It will be tough, but the 'gain pleasure and avoid pain' formula doesn't really work anyway. Life brings both pains and pleasures and it is not for us to control this. We often realize when looking back that the tough times are when we grow and develop. Make this pain of quitting meaningful.
8. Be brave now and choose the pain of quitting rather than the pleasure of smoking. As you win the war and free yourself, the pain will turn to great pleasure.
9. If you continue to smoke, the pleasure will eventually turn to terrible pain. You know it - smoking will kill you slowly but surely, and it is not a pleasant death. Choose life; choose strength and freedom. You can do it, for sure!
10. Book a teeth-cleaning session with your dentist. Book it for next week - for the day following your next Session, Session Five. It doesn't matter if you had your teeth cleaned just a couple of weeks ago. Do it again please. You are going to get yourself the teeth of a non-smoker and hopefully maintain them that way.
