Smoking and Addiction Facts - Page 1
Stop Smoking

Once addicted, you smoke for just one reason - your brain asks for nicotine.

You must digest this information and acknowledge it. It is of great importance that you realize you have become addicted to nicotine. If you truly realize this, you can then understand the discrepancy of 'enjoying' a habit that kills you.

In this Session we will explain the mechanism of addiction that takes place in a faculty of the brain named the cholinergic system.

You have conditioned yourself to consume nicotine, but there are other factors involved - the habit, the pleasure of a cigarette after a meal, on the phone, etc. The 'need' for a smoke when you are stressed or bored.

But remember that these other reasons cannot stand alone. You wouldn't smoke a cigarette that did not contain nicotine. A nicotine-less cigarette would not do anything for your stress, and it wouldn't feel good after a meal.

Remember also that the tobacco industry is one of the most insidious industries on earth. They are worse than the ruthless drug cartels and worse than marauding arms merchants.

All illicit drugs combined (cocaine and heroin included) do not inflict as much death and disease as legal cigarettes.

All of the major wars do not inflict as much grave and disastrous death and such a high toll of misery as the act of cigarette smoking.

The tobacco industry is in the game for the money. And money is much more important to them than your life. Don't cooperate with them - start by stopping your association with the brand that you normally smoke.

The tobacco industry's advertising campaigns are embedded in our collective subconscious. They started convincing us from a very young age that smoking is a cool, sexy thing to do - we looked around us and saw adults and movie stars smoking, and we wanted to be like them.

When we started smoking it didn't feel good, but like many other things smoking is an acquired taste. So we smoked again, and sure enough it wasn't long before we started liking it. Now we say we enjoy it, and we do.

Did you know that nicotine is more addictive then alcohol and heroin? Quite amazing, but it is a fact. Only one in five casual heroin users becomes a heroin addict. One in twenty casual/recreational drinkers becomes an alcoholic, but one in three casual smokers becomes a nicotine addict. One in three!
