Important Questions and Answers about Smoking - Page 8
Stop Smoking

Proactive Action for Session Three

1. Do something most unnatural - as of now, dramatically cut your daily allowance of cigarettes. This is how you'll establish the new number of cigarettes for your daily consumption:

(Please note: if you smoke 9 cigarettes or less per day, cut two cigarette and establish that amount as your daily allowance. Those less of a dramatic change for you as you are a relatively light smoker, please follow the rest of the instructions and be sure to adjust your attitude)

If you smoke more than 9 cigarettes per day follow the instruction as hereunder:

a. Deduct the number 9 from the amount of cigarettes you currently smoke.

b. Divide the number you have reached by 2.

c. Add 9 to the figure.

That figure is your new allowance.

Let's illustrate these three simple steps with a numerical example to make sure you are clear about it. For the sake of the example we'll say you've smoked seventeen cigarettes a day in the last five days. So seventeen is the number we start with:

a. 17 - 9 = 8

b. 8 ? 2 = 4

c. 9 + 4 = 13

In this instance, the new daily allowance is thirteen cigarettes.

2. Follow these three steps and establish your new daily allowance. It may be tough, but this is it. You are playing your own game, so abide by the game's rules. Make this your rule, not the program's rule. Accept it internally. There's no question about it - you can do it.

3. During the last week you became more aware of your smoking habit. You smoked the same amount of cigarettes but, being conscious of each cigarette, you identified which ones were smoked purely out of boredom and habit, and which were to feed your nicotine addiction.

4. You must now cut out those cigarettes that you don't really need. Such as the ones you light automatically when driving or talking on the phone. You know best which ones to cut, so cut them.

5. At the moment it is no big deal for your addicted brain to sacrifice these cigarettes - the addiction is still fully maintained. However, the voice of addiction may well protest and scream. Quieten it down - don't give it power.
