Be smart about it 4 - Don't work out too hard

When it comes to burning the extra calories there's no escape from investing some effort and time. This investment will yield not just fat loss, but better health and an improved sense of wellbeing. You'll be more agile and energized; you won't want to even think about a cigarette; and you'll feel vitalized and looking forward to your next workout.

But remember that there's no escape from investing the time and effort.

There are two more important points to discuss - your general attitude towards physical activity, and our suggested training strategy.

A. A matter of attitude - don't be lazy!

Remember the story of the fat lazy country boy who couldn't be bothered to move a finger, not even to save his own life? These days we're mostly city boys and girls who have become used to living in a mechanical and automated world. We sit on our behinds most of the time, and when not sitting we either recline or lie flat on our backs. We sit at our computers during the day, and in front of TV sets at night. Most of us don't move much simply because we don't really have to.

But remember your origin; remember what your body was designed for. Keep it in shape because you never know, even today, when you'll need to rely on it. Choose the stairs instead of the lift, or at least walk a couple of flights up and down every day. Walk to the store instead of driving your car. These examples are very general and they may not relate to your circumstances, but the principle is simple - get into action and get moving! Remember you are an animal that was designed for action.
