Stop Smoking

Life is short - eat dessert.
B.B. Yong

Enjoy life, eat desert for sure, and yet be mindful to what you do. Don't eat sweets because you are depressed or as a compensation for some complex or another. Don't over eat out of habit or as a compulsive disorder, eat to nourish and sustain your body and eat to enjoy life and have desert as well, for sure.

The following session is more informative and less motivational, taking into consideration that you've ventured the journey and came to this point we trust that you can incorporate the same principal you employed for smoking cessation onto other areas of your life.

Session Eight

If you have stopped smoking but started eating too much, you may well think you'd be better off smoking than being obese.

In most Western countries people are becoming obese regardless of their smoking habit. Yet it is true, as we have showed before, that smoking does accelerate metabolism. And it is also true that overeating and/or 'sugar-hitting' are natural compensations for loss of the nicotine high - they soothe the temporary agony and sense of grievance for the craved drug.

Replacing a smoking addiction with excessive eating is common, but you don't have to fall into this pit. The way to avoid it is by maintaining a body weight or body size you are comfortable with and not allowing major fluctuations.

Your body has an inherent tendency to maintain a certain homeostasis or equilibrium, to stabilize at a certain body weight and then maintain it. You can take advantage of this tendency and stabilize your body at a weight you are comfortable with. Once stabilized, the body will contribute to the maintenance of this weight by regulating your appetite and accelerating metabolism.

Pay more attention to the belt than the scales. Use your belt as a measure of whether or not you are gaining weight and don't let it expand more than an inch or so around your waist. Scales do not always tell the true story - lean body mass may be augmented by either muscle or by fat, and in both cases the scales will show a gain in weight.

Kill excess fat while it is still 'young'.
