7. When addiction plays tricks, when it inflicts its pains, you might suffer. Remember that pain is part of life, suffering is part of life, but being a victim is your choice.

Do not be a victim, remember that it's your choice. Choose not to be a victim and your life will never be the same. It will make your pain bearable. Remember it is your choice and go through it with great love and compassion for yourself. You are not a victim, you are fighting for your life, and part of this fight is enduring pain.

Accept your pain with grace and dignity. Such an attitude will baffle addiction, it will throw it out of balance. Confusion in the enemy's troops, that's exactly what you want, and the way to achieve it is by inviting strife, expecting strife of any kind and welcoming it.

But don't let it catch you unprepared, rather:

Expect headaches. Expect sleepless nights. Expect irritability and nervousness. Expect tormenting craving. Expect other withdrawal symptoms and pains.

And when they come, smile through the pain and strife. Smile and say to yourself: 'Aha, you've finally arrived. Welcome, pain. What took you so long? I was waiting for you. Why did it take you that long, I thought I was waiting in vain. Well, now that you're here, pain, show me what you've got for me. I'm ready for you and ready to send you back ashamed to the place you come from.'

Such a message, uttered clearly and internally, carries a colossal message back to addiction. It is a devastating blow of death to addiction. If you are prepared and expecting pain with almost eager anticipation you will take the sting out of addiction's bite.
